The Indian stock market weekly wrap shows a range-bound performance as benchmark indices remained largely stable, while broader markets continued to face pressure. Mid- and small-cap indices extended their losses for the second consecutive week, declining by up to 0.4 percent amid cautious global and domestic cues.
Indian Stock Market Weekly Wrap: Sectoral Performance
Sector-wise, weakness was visible in consumption and defensives. Nifty Consumer Durables, Realty, Pharma, and Healthcare indices declined nearly 2 percent each. The Nifty Auto index slipped 1.75 percent, while the Nifty Media index fell around 1 percent during the week.
On the positive side, PSU banking and metal stocks outperformed. The Nifty PSU Bank and Metal indices gained nearly 4.5 percent each, supported by improved sentiment. The Nifty IT index also remained strong, rising 2.8 percent on expectations of stable global demand.
FII Selling, DII Support Keeps Market Stable
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) continued their selling streak, offloading equities worth ₹14,265.58 crore. In contrast, Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) provided crucial support by buying shares worth ₹16,173.69 crore, helping limit downside pressure.
According to market experts, global trade tensions, geopolitical concerns, and ongoing earnings announcements kept investors cautious. However, the Nifty50 holding near key exponential moving averages suggests consolidation rather than a breakdown.
