The broader market also underperformed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index declined 0.44%, while the BSE 250 SmallCap Index slipped 0.67%.
Market Breadth Remains Negative

Crude Oil and Rupee Movement
Crude oil prices remained an important factor influencing market sentiment. Brent crude for October 2026 settlement increased 88 cents, or 0.97%, to $91.90 per barrel.

Global Markets Today
Global markets remained under pressure as investors reacted to rising bond yields, higher crude oil prices, inflation concerns and weakness in technology and semiconductor stocks.
European markets traded lower after the UK’s annual consumer price inflation accelerated to 2.9% in July from 2.6% in June. The increase was driven in part by a sharp rise in gas prices.
Services inflation rose 3.4%, while goods prices increased 1.7%. Housing and household services, particularly gas and electricity, made a significant contribution to the increase in inflation.
1. Asian Markets Extend Losses
Asian markets also ended lower following a sharp sell-off in US technology and semiconductor stocks.
South Korea’s KOSPI fell more than 5%, with major semiconductor companies such as SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics witnessing sharp declines. The magnitude of the market move triggered a temporary halt in program selling, commonly known as a “sidecar”.
The semiconductor sell-off reflected growing investor caution surrounding elevated valuations in the artificial intelligence sector and the scale of investment being directed towards AI infrastructure.
2. US Markets End Lower
US stocks finished lower on Tuesday, with technology and semiconductor shares leading the decline. Rising Treasury yields and continued geopolitical concerns also weighed on investor sentiment.
- Dow Jones Industrial Average: Down 116.38 points, or 0.22%, at 53,343.40
- S&P 500: Down 53.30 points, or 0.69%, at 7,691.76
- Nasdaq Composite: Down 355.20 points, or 1.33%, at 26,289.71
Investors are also watching developments in crude oil markets, particularly uncertainty surrounding crude exports through the Strait of Hormuz amid heightened geopolitical tensions.
What to Watch Next
Market participants are likely to remain focused on global bond yields, crude oil prices, developments in the Middle East and the performance of global technology stocks.
Investors will also track the minutes of the US Federal Reserve’s July meeting for clues about the central bank’s monetary policy outlook.
For Indian equities, continued weakness in global markets combined with elevated crude prices could keep volatility high in the near term.
